South Padre Island, Texas: Who can recommend local businesses/services better than another local? I like to go where the employees are friendly and the prices reasonable... how about you?
This is not advertising because these businesses are not paying for these listings -- all recommendations are sincere and based solely upon my own observations.
Kelly's Irish Pub - Darts, pool, free popcorn, Bass on tap, friendliest bartenders, great hamburger joint next door. The northern hub of local transactions and news. No one's a stranger here. Especially if you tell them sandy feet sent you. Electronic Dart Tournament ($3 entry, house matches the pot) every Thurs. staring at 9 PM. Catch local keyboardplayer/sionger/entertainer Paul "the origianl piano slut" Brass performing Tues. & Wed. nights, 7-11 PM through the winter.
The Coral Reef - Quiet, older crowd, music you can converse over and the best drink prices on the Island. Look for the Coral Reef All-Stars Big Band during the winter season featuring horn players who actually performed with the original big bands.
Blackbeards' - Excellent food, friendly bar. I hang out here sometimes because I live practically right next door. Plus they make the most divine homemade onion rings.
Jake's - The southern local hangout. Superior jukebox, good food reasonably priced and conveniently located next to a laundry mat, making this first choice for "Happy Laundry Hour."
Boomerang Billy's - Located poolside at the Surf Motel, this cozy little palapa bar is a locals magnet on hot summer days. Attractions include beach volleyball, water sports rental and the occasional sob sandcastle.
Crawdaddy's - Frequently good, frequently live music. Yummy cajun food.
Pizza Xpress - It's the best on the Island and they will deliver it piping hot right to your Island or Port Isabel address - call 761-7273 or stop by for a slice and/or a capuccino with Michael or Ralph.
Therepeutic Massage - From Dolores Ferrentino (761-1814). There are several reputable places to get rubbed while you stay on the Island, but Dolores is the best and has been at it the longest. She and members of her very capable staff specialize in deep tissue manipulation and Swedish Massage. Highly recommended!
